Gate of Heaven Catholic CemeteryFamily Stories
Patrick Murphy was in a state of shock when he began making burial arrangements for his son, Bill.
Bill was single and had not made any pre-arrangements, nor expressed his wishes.
A life-long parishioner at Holy Rosary Parish in Burlington, Patrick knew he would select a Catholic cemetery for Bill’s burial. However, he wasn’t sure of his options, now that Holy Sepulchre no longer has ground burial lots available (unless pre-purchased). When Catholic Cemetery staff took him to the nearby Gate of Heaven Cemetery, he saw a hill-top site that took in the sweep of land, the surrounding forest, the pond below and a statue of Christ the King.
Patrick purchased four lots that day and has requested another row of four, adjacent to the first. “I want to go even farther than that and have six in a row, for all my family members,” he says.
“The Catholic Cemeteries staff has been great, absolutely fantastic. From the people I meet working in the graveyard to people in the office – they have all been very respectful.”
Patrick finds peace visiting the cemetery. “It’s got an interesting geography, sloped, with trees all around it. Maple trees border most of the roadways and you can see the escarpment. Statues of Our Lady of Fatima and of Christ the King enhance my moments of solitude.”
